Microsoft's latest Dynamics™ CRM software version now
available
Code named 'Titan' while under development, Microsoft unveiled the latest
version of its Dynamics CRM package to partners in November and released the product
today.
Evolutionary rather than revolutionary, at first glance you might think there's
little change. However, Microsoft have focused on making the product easier and
slicker for end users, on multi-language and multi-currency support, and under the
covers there have been some major architectural changes made to support multi-company
hosting.
For end users, useful improvements include much better data migration tools for loading
data in bulk (useful for adding new leads from a show, etc), more flexible
integration with MS Word for mail merge letters and documents, a report designer wizard so
end users can design their own reports, an AutoComplete feature for lookup fields
to reduce clicks, and improvements to workflow to help end users administer and
review 'where things have got to' with a particular workflow.
Microsoft have changed the licensing arrangements too, there are now three editions:
the entry level edition is
Workgroup Server which supports a maximum of 5 users, Professional Server supports
an unlimited number of users within one organisation, while Enterprise Server supports
multi-tenant deployments. Client licenses can access any CRM edition.
Deliberately, there has been no change to the 'business' functionality of the product
- Microsoft's strategy is to provide the technology platform with its partners deploying
tailored customer solutions.
